Interview with Dorothy Pang, Licensed Acupuncturist - AcuSpa

How long have you been doing what you are doing, and how did you get to be an acupuncturist?

dorothy-pang-profile-image-largeWhen I was a little girl, my grandfather was the one that took care of me. We spent our days together and one of his great passions was Chinese Kung Fu movies. He liked the ones that were based on old Chinese myths, and superheroes would leap across the sky and epic battles of martial arts would grace our TV. My grandfather ended up getting cancer, and while I don’t remember the specifics of his care, I do remember that the treatments being given to him were clearly causing him to feel sicker. Was there a better way to do this, a gentler and more natural approach that would help him to feel better, and healthier?

So I decided I would dedicate my life to helping people to feel better when they were suffering from illness. This is something that acupuncture uniquely offers to people, it can make sick people healthy again, it can be used create good health. In the same way that martial arts practitioners use qi to enhance their physical abilities, a master acupuncturist uses knowledge of the qi to get great healing results. When my clients leave my office, I am proud to say that they feel better than when they came in. Whether it’s pain that they were feeling, or digestive irregularities, I know that they leave feeling relief from their body complaints, AND that they are actually healthier than before they came in. I’ve seen this change happen to hundreds and hundreds of people.

I have since made a commitment to dedicate my professional life to treating people with are suffering with a natural, body-friendly method.

Who are your clients?

My clients are a large range of people. They are male and female, some have pain, others have very low energy. Their main complaints will vary. There are many with pain that is stubborn, and they realize that taking pills are not solving their problem. They are people that are seeking a real solution, that want good health, and not just a band aid that covers up their problem. They range in age from 20’s to 50’s and beyond, because pain and low functioning organs can happen at any age. I see many women with chronic health conditions that are tired of feeling tired, and want the energy to do the things that they love to do again. I see grandmothers that want to be able to play with their grandchildren, but were finding it a challenge. I also very often see working women that have put a lot of energy into their jobs or caring for others, but haven’t figured out the appropriate way to care for themselves, and their bodies are complaining as a result.

How are you different from other acupuncturists?

I have a very gentle technique. I trained with Japanese style acupuncturists, and I call it “No Feeling” acupuncture. Most of the time, my clients don’t feel anything but my fingers on their skin. I explain everything before I do it the first treatment, so that you know what is going on. This allows maximum relaxation and also maximum healing to take place. Our bodies heal best in a relaxed state.

I prefer to rebalance the health of the whole person and not just treat the symptoms being expressed. When I treat the person in a holistic manner, they get a lasting effect because the body is truly healed from dis-ease, instead of just temporarily addressing symptoms. A truly healed person is not only pain-free, but also feels energized and emotionally in balance.

Does this really work?

Well, in a word, YES. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, on people, and it’s a very sophisticated system of healthcare. It effectively reduces pain with very few side effects, and I have seen it improve health tremendously for people suffering from various ailments. It is amazingly effective because it can promote healthy organ function and encourage healing.

How quickly can I expect results?

Most people that come in feel better within a few hours. Some bodies (about 2%) take up to 72 hours to feel the full result of an acupuncture session. Treatments improve health incrementally so full results are unlikely from one session; however, the benefits of treatment usually are experienced pretty much immediately. I usually get great feedback for how clients are feeling the next day. Are you ready to feel better?

If you are ready to feel better, I invite you to schedule an initial acupuncture session. You may do so through our online scheduler here.
